Training:
Building Skills and Language for communication
If staff feel unable to talk about their disagreements, bad feelings can fester and lead to situations escalating. Staff training on working with disagreement provides people with an opportunity to discuss issues they find difficult, and gives them the language, skills and tools to do so. This increases the organisation’s capacity to work creatively and positively and reduces the likelihood of disputes escalating.
We offer staff training in skills for working with conflict at all levels and can tailor these to your requirements.

Introductory “appetisers”
Around 2 hours - designed to fit into a team meeting or awayday. These can start a process of thinking about how to approach disagreements. Participants leave with a better understanding of their own and other people’s conflict styles and how to spot the early signs of an escalating conflict. This training is suitable for all staff. One Day Introductions to working with conflict. These combine an understanding of basic theories of conflict and how it escalates, with practical skills for defusing and working constructively with conflict. The concept and principles of mediation are introduced, but the focus is on practical skills for participants to apply in the workplace. This training is suitable for all staff. |
One Day sessions on working productively with people who are upset or angry.
These focus on effective ways to respond, rather than react, to provocative behaviour. Participants learn to understand their own reactions and substitute alternative, more effective behaviours. This training is particularly geared to the needs of externally facing staff, though it is also valuable for others. Accredited course in mediation skills This is intended for staff participating in an internal workplace mediation service.
